Presentation of Genes Diffusion genetics in Costa Rica
On April 26th, Fernando BADILLA, distributor of Gènes Diffusion in Costa Rica, organized
in Guayabo, in the heart of his dairy farm "Cortijo Miravalles" (near the volcano
Miravalles), a meeting in order to display products of the Gènes Diffusion genetics.
The Holstein Association of Costa Rica was associated with this meeting which allowed
the Costa Rican breeders to discover the progeny of several Gènes Diffusion bulls,
among them the top-type LONARD, the red leader LINET RED, the all-around RENATE...
born on the farm.

The herd, stemming at the origin of north-american genetics, consists at present
of 88 milking cows, among which some montbéliard crosses, producing daily 2200 liters
of milk. They graze all year round and receive a supplementation of concentrated
feed at milking time. Situated at 1000 m above sea level, on the pacific side of
the northwest of the country, the herd Cortijo Miravalles benefits from a mild climate
all year long. Only the rain period is a little critical in such a system for F.
Badilla and his employees.

On a second farm, situated in Guacimo, province of Limon, on the atlantic side,
Fernando Badilla also runs a beef herd. To improve the profitability of his herd,
he now uses progeny tested charolais bulls of GENES DIFFUSION OPTIMAL on his cows
of brahman origin. The first results are very promising.
The farm being in the lowlands with a subtropical climate, it is necessary to keep
a minimum of zebu blood for a better resistance to the parasites and to the hot
and humid conditions. The optimum would be 5/8 of charolais and 3/8 of brahman blood.
This hybrid breed is called "Charbray" (or "Canchim" in Brazil).
Without any doubt, these two well-managed herds constitute an ideal showcase to
promote the holstein and charolais genetics of Gènes Diffusion Optimal in Costa
Rica.
The Simmental France genetics, exported by GD s.a.s., are also used by F. Badilla.
For the moment, he has on the ground MUTZIG and NAVARO calves on his beef farm.
