MARY, dam of PINAY, still active
Marie-Claude and Jean-Paul GUIBERT, the breeders of PINAY who were recently honored
at the National Charolais Show at La Roche-sur-Yon, still have the dam of the famous
Charolais bull in their barns (EARL Guibert – 85). Mary – that’s her name – is active
as a permanent embryo donor…
And a really good one too » comments Philippe ROBIN, as Embryos Transplantation technician responsible
for the embryo collection. Although already 13 years old, Mary continues to be on
active duty, and has supplied over 160 embryos to date. And it is not over yet,
for Philippe ROBIN intends to flush her twice this winter to satisfy the demand.
Mary is a daughter of the bull HOMERE (RVS). She
is especially known for her phenotype and the quality of her offspring: her son
PINAY, of course, the most used Charolais bull in France
for the third consecutive year, and her daughter Ravissante (full sister to PINAY),
who has won numerous titles at the French shows.
With an index of 113 IVMAT, Mary « is a cow with
very complete type and a large rump, » says Sébastien LANDEMAINE, sire analyst with
the Charolais program of Gènes Diffusion. « She is also outstanding for the functional
traits, » he adds. Although she has not participated in many shows, in 2004 she
has won the « Prix de la Famille par la Mère » at La Roche-sur-Yon.
